SUMMARY:WCHS Local History Book Club
DESCRIPTION:November Meeting of WCHS Local History Book Club \nWashington County Historical Society’s Local History Book Club will meet from 12 noon until 1 PM on Friday\, Nov. 10\, at Battenkill Fibers\, 2532 State Route 40\, Greenwich. A tour of the facility\, led by Mary Jeanne Packer\, owner\, will precede our discussion. We will see scouring\, carding\, spinning\, and plying. \nFocus of the session is on Merino sheep in the early 1800’s in Washington County and Vanishing Fleece\, Adventures in American Wool by Clara Parkes\, published in 2021. \nThe book club meets regularly on the second Friday of the month at twelve o’clock\, usually at the county Historical Society in Fort Edward. The December topic will be on tugboats on the Champlain Canal\, reading books by Fred Godfrey. Meeting will be at the Folklife Center\, Crandall Library\, Glens Falls. \nFuture sessions of the club will include books about the larger Adirondack area as well as works by local authors. Proposed topics include the temperance movement in our area\, agricultural fairs in Washington Co.\, and the life of Salem resident Asa Fitch\, historian and entomologist.
