SUMMARY:December Local History Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Washington County Historical Society’s Local History Book Club will meet from 12 to 1 on Wednesday\, December 10\, at the Folklife Center\, downstairs in the Crandall Library\, 251 Glen Street\, Glens Falls. This is a change from our usual hour due to the Folklife Center schedule.\nThe discussion focuses on “Bridging the Years\,” Glens Falls\, New York\, 1763-1978\, published by the Glens Falls Historical Association in 1978. Attention will be given to the lime industry\, the paper industry\, and the covered bridge.\nEach attendee is asked to bring a used book wrapped for Christmas to exchange with other attendees. These will be taken home to open on Christmas.\nFuture sessions of the club will feature books about the larger Adirondack area as well as works by local authors. Upcoming topics include: Charles Evans Hughes\, NY governor born in Glens Falls; Le Loup’s Bloody Trail from Salem to Argyle; and slavery in Washington County. SUMMARY:Knox Trail Commemoration Weekend
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary\, cannons will parade from Fort Edward High School to the Old Fort House Museum on the Knox Trail. \nThe parade starts at 9 am at the High School but the Knox Train reenactment of the cannons on sleds pulled by horses will join the route at the bottom of the hill near the Irving Tissue entrance. \nWreaths will be laid at the monuments in front of the Hudson Falls Library\, Fort Edward School\, and Fort Miller Canal Lock Road. The Fort House will be open extended hours for the celebration 10 am – 4 pm.  **Please note\, the wreath laying at the Hudson Falls Library will take place at 8:30 am\, before the parade begins in Fort Edward. \nAt 10:30 am\, the parade will pick up at Fort Miller. \nAt 1 pm\, Washington County will hand off the sleds loaded with cannons to Saratoga County. This takes place in the center of the Dix Bridge in Hudson Crossing Park and will continue to the Fort Hardy Park Field of Grounded Arms along the Old Champlain Canal Towpath. \nFrom 1 – 4 pm the Knox Festival continues in Fort Hardy Park with Historians\, Draft Animal Wagon Rides\, Artillery Demonstrations\, Food\, etc. The Visitor Center will be open\,
