Tour of Otis Cemetery and the Cemetery of East Westfield
Take a guided tour of the Otis Cemetery and the Cemetery of East Westfield with lunch to follow in Pocket Park. Guests will meet at and leave from the Fort Ann Firehouse.
Otis Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in the Town of Fort Ann and has approximately 184 marked graves ranging from 1797 – 1908. It is the final resting place of Robert Hopkins, a Revolutionary War soldier, who enlisted in 1779 in Captain Adiel Sherwood’s company of New York troops. Hopkins was captured by British forces at Fort Anne and taken to Montreal, where he spent three years as a prisoner of war. After the war he relocated to Fort Anne, where he lived for the rest of his life.
Around the corner is the reclaim cemetery of East Westfield, with veterans of the Revolutionary war and daughter and first wife of Thadeus Dewey buried here.
