WCHS Local History Book Club
Washington County Historical Society’s Local History Book Club will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 on Wednesday, July 8, in the Farm Museum, Washington County Fairgrounds, 392 Old Schuylerville, Road, Greenwich. Membership in the county historical society is not required.
The topic is Flax and Linen in Early Washington County. Primary resource is Linen Threads and Broom Twines: An Irish and American Album and Directory of the People of the Dunbarton Mill, Greenwich, New York, 1879-1952 by William T. Ruddock. The book club session will be held in front of the flax and linen exhibit which was created by Paul Lundberg of Easton. The display includes antique flax processing equipment and a map of all known flax mills in early Washington County.
Debi Craig of Hebron, local historian, has made available a linen bed sheet that was woven in the town of Hebron. A sampler made by Eliza Denio Auringer, born 1812 in Hartford, Washington County, will also be passed around
